Facebook starts hiring for Blockchain positions, launch date still a secret

Facebook shares an amusing relationship with cryptocurrencies and blockchain. From the beginning, Facebook’s ad policies against cryptocurrencies and ICO’s have been inflexible. However, Slowly and steadily, Facebook has been building its blockchain and cryptocurrency treasury. According to job openings at Facebook’s Career website, the social media giant has listed out five blockchain openings related with cryptocurrency jobs.
Well, we can’t help it but think, is Facebook launching some sort of cryptocurrency product? Officially, Facebook has been silent about it, however with the hiring updates of Facebook, it can be assumed that the social media platform might be launching its own products on blockchain/cryptocurrencies. Most crypto enthusiasts are extremely eager to find out what Social media giant, Facebook plans in its secret date with cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
On Facebook’s Career page, apart from regular social media jobs, it shows openings for Data Scientist, Data engineer, Software engineers, and Product Marketing Lead.
What caught the attention? Opening for Production Marketing Lead is an attention seeking post as professionals at this post are hired by companies when there is a product which needs to be launched. It might be quite possible that Facebook already has a blockchain/crypto product ready, waiting to be launched. The Job description of the post categorically states that ‘we are seeking an experienced leader to build and manage a new product marketing team focused on exploring the opportunity the blockchain will bring.’ We don’t know yet, but we sure will in a matter of time.
A few months earlier, there was news that David Marcus stepped down from the Board of Coinbase as he wanted to focus and work on face book’s secret blockchain project. However, he reasoned his resignation to conflict of interests.
Marcus stated that ‘Because of the new group I’m setting up at Facebook around blockchain, I’ve decided it was appropriate for me to resign from the Coinbase board. Marcus stepped down on August 2018. Looking at these events in such a sequence, it could be possible that Facebook is ready with its product to launch.
