Previously, a popular messaging app, called Telegram was banned in Russia. This led to various protests among the commoners, followed by a passive demonstration of disapproval of the ban by the Pussy riot Activists.
Telegram Messenger is a popular platform amongst the users which is an encrypted messaging service. Russia has legally prohibited the application, which has millions of users, until and unless company provides decrypting options of the encrypted user messages to Federal Security Services.
Durov’s optimism regarding the outcome:
Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has his full confidence vested in the app as he said, “I’m thrilled we were able to survive under the most aggressive attempt of internet censorship in Russian history with almost 18 million IP addresses ”.
The spokesperson of kremlin, Dmitri S.Peskov, also Putin’s spokesman, stated, “There is a certain legislation that demands certain data to be passed to certain services of the Russian Federation”.
Pussy Riot Activists showed their protest in front of the headquarters of the Federal Services, four days ago, by flying hand-made airplanes made out of colourful papers which symbolizes the Telegram app symbol. Pussy riot Activist, Maria Alyokhina was arrested and taken to the Magistrate’s office. Later on she was released .
Inspired by the protest, Mr founder, Pavel Durov has emphasized on flying more paper planes from the windows at 7 pm on April 22 to support “free internet”. He has named the movement “Digital Resistance”. Not only this Mr Durov is giving away bitcoins worth millions to companies that runs VPN and socks5 proxies. He is encouraging all such companies to share the proxies among the commoners as much as they can possibly do.
He also exclaims that the digital resistance movement needs to be encouraged among the common people as Russia is on its way to “full scale internet censorship”.
